A family owned restaurant led by Head executive Chef, Mrs Asagedech Gorfee......

who are we?

....Originally from Ethiopia, we came to Leeds from Nairobi in late 2012. We saw that at that time, there was no Ethiopian restaurant in Yorkshire. Even though we are skilled and had a good business opportunity, it was hard to get the capital and advice we needed. We made a lot of research and took a lot of risks, with a lot of effort and in 2015 we were able to open Melkam.

Why Beeston?

Initially, we opened on Roundhay Road, to be near the Ethiopian community in Harehills and Lincoln Green. Now we have built up a group of loyal customers who appreciate our superior and authentic product, as well as lots of demand for our catering services. We realised we could have better premises here and keep our old customers, whilst also reaching new ones.

Our core values?

We just don't want to be another ordinary restaurant. We want our customers to leave with a bit of Ethiopia in them; To be enriched with African beauty and learn about our history and culture. We want to show our authenticity to the people of Leeds, and enable both our communities to integrate with one another!

When it comes to Ethiopian food, some places use substitutes for these ingredients, but we import them directly From the source. People come to us because we make real Ethiopian food.
